CCNP ROUTE Technologies: EIGRP Part 1

Key Concepts:

  •  Developed by Cisco
  • Classfull auto-summerazation (on by default)
  • Supports VLSM and manual-summerazation on any router
  • Considered an advanced distance vector or "balanced hybrid" routing protocol
    • talks directly to attached neighbors
    • uses tables to track links
  • Very quick convergence time
  • Equal Cost Load Balencing by default (maximum of 4 ECPs by default)
    • Supports UECMP using the varience command
  • Advertises routes via multicast address 224.0.0.10

Cisco 642-902 (ROUTE): Study Guide

Now the last post I mentioned I was going to start a Study Guide series for the Cisco 642-813 (SWITCH) exam and as you can see I never followed up. Since then I have passed my 642-813 exam!. I am currently working on the 642-902 exam, once I finish this exam (hopefully soon), I will go back and finish the SWITCH post series in preparation for the TSHOOT exam. Now, I will say I have already taken the 642-902 exam and failed by a narrow margin. Overall I would say the ROUTE exam is MUCH MUCH easier than the SWITCH exam. For me the SWITCH exam covers several different technologies and only touches the surface where ROUTE covers fewer technologies but goes more in-depth to each one. For me this means the ROUTE material is easier to grasp and remember. Over the next week or so I will be doing a post or two a day up to my retake for the exam. Here it goes...

I will break everything down into a series of post:

- Technologies Covered in CCNP ROUTE

  • EIGRP
  • OSPF
  • BGP
  • NBMA Networks
  • Route Redistribution
  • Policy Based Routing
  • Layer 3 path Control
  • IPv6
  • Tunneling Methods

- Design and Business Concepts Covered in CCNP Route

  • Implementation Plan

- Mapping everything to the CCNP 642-902 blueprint

- Relating these technologies to the real world

Cisco 642-813 (SWITCH) - Study Guide

So I have been pursuing my Cisco Certified Network Professional certification for about the past 12 months. I have failed the  642-813 exam twice and I am taking a third go at it in a few days. I have been reading and re-reading both the CCNP SWITCH Official Certification Guide and the CCNP SWITCH Foundation Learning Guide as well as performing labs using Boson NetSim 8 and my home lab. To help me finalize my learnings and wrap everything up I will be writing posts laying out what you would need to know to Implement a Cisco Switched Network.

I will break everything down into a series of post:

- Technologies Covered in CCNP SWITCH

  • Multi Layer Switching
  • Spanning Tree
  • VLANs
  • Port Aggregation
  • Inter-Vlan routing
  • FHRP
  • Network Monitoring
  • Wireless LANs
  • VoIP

- Design and Business Concepts Covered in CCNP SWITCH

  • Cisco Enterprise Campus Network Model
  • PPIDOO
  • SONA

- Mapping design and business gaols to technologies

- Mapping everything to the CCNP 642-813 blueprint
